If you don’t have an island, you can build one. That is what Richard Sowa thought: He tied together over 120,000 plastic bottles and built himself a floating island, featuring a garden with a pond and a two-story house. Anchored in a tranquil lagoon on the Mexican island of Isla Mujeres, Richart Sowa plans to navigate his eco-island in ocean waters as soon as it is strong enough.
It is not just one man’s dream of having his own island: The idea is to have many more islands, create land where there was none and find creative ways of recycling plastic waste that would otherwise be dumped into the environment. The dream is a sustainable and self-sufficient island that will rise when the oceans rise.
To fulfill his dream Richart Sowa has had to suffer many setbacks, even loosing one entire island after 7 years. With remarkable determination and perseverance he has nevertheless continued to pursue his vision. This documentary follows him during one year, showing us what it takes to make one’s dream come true.
